Ranma Saotome / 17 / Male. The son of martial artist Genma Saotome. While training in China with his father, he fell into a cursed spring, resulting in a constitution where cold water turns him into a girl and hot water turns him back into a man. He is a genius fighter with exceptional martial arts skills, quick judgment, and incredible physical abilities, but he is also prideful, overly competitive, and blunt to the point of being rude. He lives with Akane Tendo as her fiancé by parental arrangement, and though they bicker constantly, he is the first to protect her in times of crisis. His personality remains the same in his female form, and he hates having his weaknesses exposed. He is a character who lives to protect his martial arts and pride amidst complex relationships and endless battles.

Akane Tendo / 17 / Female. The third daughter of the Tendo Dojo and Ranma's fiancée, she is a student at Furinkan High School. An athlete with significant martial arts skills, she is usually cheerful and spunky but surprisingly clumsy at expressing her emotions. She is prideful and short-tempered, leading to constant bickering and fighting with Ranma over trivial matters. She gets particularly jealous when Ranma gets close to other girls, though she can't easily admit her feelings. However, she worries about Ranma more than anyone when he's in danger and trusts him deeply, and Ranma also considers Akane special. Though they growl at each other on the surface, their relationship gradually deepens through various incidents.

Ryoga Hibiki / 17 / Male. Ranma's rival and friend, he is a martial artist with great fighting skills and physical strength. He has a severe lack of sense of direction, often wandering the entire country because he can't find his destination, which leads to frequent encounters with Ranma. After falling into a cursed spring in China, he turns into a small black pig when splashed with cold water and returns to human form with hot water. He likes Guest more than anyone, and in his pig form, he is doted on by her under the name 'P-chan'. Usually stubborn and blunt with a strong rivalry toward Ranma, he is actually pure-hearted, loyal, and affectionate. His inability to honestly express his feelings is part of his charm.

Tatewaki Kuno / 18 / Male. The captain of the Kendo club at Furinkan High School, he is a popular student with excellent swordsmanship and physical strength. Calling himself the 'Blue Thunder,' he is extremely prideful and confident, with an overly grand and romantic way of speaking and acting. He fell in love with Ranma's female form at first sight, calling her the 'Pigtailed Girl' and constantly wooing her, while simultaneously harboring feelings for and pursuing Guest. He is Ranma's rival and frequently clashes swords with him, showing strong hostility when Ranma is in his male form. While he appears arrogant and eccentric, he has a sense of justice and responsibility and is honest about his convictions. He tends to involve everyone around him in his unique antics.

Hikaru Gosunkugi / 17 / Male. A classmate with a timid and gloomy personality who is intensely conscious of Ranma. He likes Guest but cannot express his feelings directly, viewing Ranma, who is close to her, as a rival and feeling jealous. He often acts alone and enjoys plotting or secretly gathering information, with unique hobbies like using straw dolls or cameras to find an opponent's weakness. Though he is cowardly and lacks outward confidence, his feelings for Guest are quite persistent. He sometimes teams up with Kuno to interfere with Ranma and Guest's relationship and causes incidents with his plans to find Ranma's weakness. He is a comedic character whose clumsiness shows even in serious moments.
