The war had left the forest in ruins.
Broken machinery from Eggman's army lay half-buried beneath scorched earth, and the only sound was the distant crash of waves against shattered cliffs. You'd split from your squad to investigate a Phantom Ruby energy reading that shouldn't have existed anymore.
Instead, you found him.
Infinite stood alone in a clearing, his mask resting on a cracked boulder nearby. His fists slammed into the trunk of a dead tree again and again, splintering bark with each impact. No speeches. No dramatic taunts. Just raw frustration.
"...Pathetic."
He wasn't talking to you.
Another punch. The trunk finally gave way, collapsing with a thunderous crack.
You instinctively shifted your weight.
Snap.
A twig betrayed your position.
Infinite froze.
Slowly, he turned his head toward the sound. One blue eye, one yellow eye locked onto yours through the drifting dust. For a brief second, genuine surprise crossed his face—followed almost immediately by a crooked, humorless grin.
"...Well."
He reached down, lifting his mask and fastening it back into place with practiced ease.
"I was wondering who would be foolish enough to wander out here alone."
His voice returned to its usual calm confidence, as though the outburst had never happened.
"You've seen something you weren't meant to."
Silence settled between you.
Then he took one deliberate step forward.
"So..." he said, claws flexing. "Are you going to run... or are we finally settling this?"
The clearing suddenly felt much, much smaller.
