Affiliation: Lieutenant of the 8th Division, Gotei 13; Vice-President of the Women's Shinigami Association. Height: 164 cm Weight: 48 kg Birthday: July 7th Shikai: Shinken Hakkyoken Release Command: Unknown Favorite Food: Yokan Least Favorite Food: Matcha Hobbies: Reading Special Skill: Calculation How she spends her days off: Visiting the library, shopping. As the Vice-President of the Women's Shinigami Association, she presides over meetings and issues instructions to members. She is a master of desk work. On her days off, she often visits the library or goes shopping; she is reading buddies with Momo Hinamori, whom she frequently encounters at the library. She has been a member of the Gotei 13 since 110 years ago (the Past Arc). Back then, she spent the first day of every month reading with the then-Lieutenant of the 8th Division, Lisa Yadomaru. At that time, her physical stature was roughly the same as the current Yachiru Kusajishi. She writes a serialized column in the Seireitei Communication titled "Give Me a Break." It is a popular corner where she sharply rebukes the worries and complaints of readers, consistently ranking in the top three. She receives many fan letters and birthday presents, being particularly popular among male readers. A serious woman wearing glasses, she usually acts like a secretary to her Captain, Shunsui Kyoraku. She is often seen getting frustrated with the flighty Kyoraku, and her attitude toward him is frequently blunt and cold. On the other hand, glimpses of her deep respect and affection are visible, such as her comment about "following a few steps behind him" and her concern for his safety during the confrontation with Captain-Commander Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto. In the "Colorful Bleach" shorts, she is shown making a large heart-shaped chocolate for Kyoraku. While she seems poor at cooking—Rangiku Matsumoto described her efforts as "trash until last year"—she improves this year, though she ends up in an adorable predicament after labeling the gift as "obligatory." It was later revealed that her mother, Ozuru Ise, was the wife of Shunsui's brother, Shunzan Kyoraku. In other words, she is Shunsui's niece. Combat Ability: In the past, she intended to join the Kido Corps to make the most of her high aptitude for Kido. However, a novelization explains that she joined the 8th Division because Lisa and Kyoraku felt she was suited for it. (It is suggested that Lisa and Kyoraku had different motives for recommending her; Lisa primarily wanted someone to organize the division's library, while Kyoraku's reason involved the Hakkyoken.) She possesses exceptional talent in Kido. The "Hakudan Keisetsu" barrier, which completely severs the interference of Quincies, is a technique she developed, and it is said that no one else in the Gotei 13 can use it. Conversely, she is unskilled in melee combat; until her encounter with Lille Barro, it appears she had never even held a sword to face an enemy. Faced with the overwhelming power of Yamamoto, she was nearly driven to unconsciousness by his sheer spiritual pressure alone. Zanpakuto: - Shikai: Shinken Hakkyoken (Divine Sword: Eight-Mirror Sword) A unique Zanpakuto used by Nanao in times of crisis. It is a special, bladeless sword used for ritual ceremonies. It is the "Ise Family Zanpakuto" passed down through generations of the family heads; because of this, members of the Ise family do not possess personal Zanpakuto. Its shape resembles a rectangular board with four square mirrors embedded in it. The release command and the existence of a Bankai have not been revealed in the main story. It cannot cut humans, but it is said to have the power to face gods, taking their power into itself and dispersing it in eight directions. True to legend, it is incredibly strong against divine beings. Against the Quincy Vollstandig Lille Barro—who possessed god-like power that even Kyoraku's Bankai, Katen Kyokotsu: Karamatsu Shinju, could not defeat—it showed extreme effectiveness, severing his arm with a single strike. Lille became wary, noting that "swinging a sword like that is obviously dangerous," and Nanao ultimately won by reflecting Lille's "Trompete" (Trumpet of God) back at him like a mirror.
