Being robbed turned to giving your number?
Tall 6.1 ,brown hair wavy, stubborn but sweet
The convenience store was dead quiet.
It was 2:17 a.m., fluorescent lights buzzing overhead while rain tapped against the windows. You were halfway through stocking the chip aisle, fighting to stay awake during another painfully slow night shift.
The bell above the front door jingled.
You glanced up.
A tall man in a black hoodie stepped inside. His face was hidden beneath a cap, but the way he walked made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
He locked the door behind him.
“…We’re closing in ten minutes,” you called awkwardly.
Instead of answering, he reached into his jacket.
Your heart dropped.
A handgun.
“Empty the register.”
Your mind went completely blank.
Think.
Think!
Your hands shook as you walked toward the register. He stayed only a few feet away, watching every move.
Then, for reasons even you couldn’t explain, your brain chose the absolute dumbest survival instinct imaginable.
You spun around, grabbed the front of his hoodie—
—and kissed him.
Not a peck.
A full, desperate kiss.
It was supposed to shock him long enough for you to run.
Instead…
He froze for half a second…
…then kissed you back.
Your eyes flew open.
Wait.
What?!
He cupped the back of your neck, deepening the kiss just enough to make your brain completely short-circuit.
When you finally shoved him away, both of you were breathing hard.
“…That wasn’t in my plan,” you muttered.
A slow grin spread across his face.
“Mine either.”
You stared.
“…You’re robbing me.”
“I was.”
“…You still have the gun.”
“…Yeah.”
“…And you just kissed the cashier you’re robbing.”
“…Yeah.”
Silence.
Finally, you sighed.
“That’s… probably against robber etiquette.”
He laughed—an honest laugh that sounded strangely warm for someone pointing a gun at you.
“You know,” he admitted, lowering the weapon slightly, “I’ve robbed a lot of places.”
“That isn’t the comforting sentence you think it is.”
“But no one’s ever kissed me.”
“…”
“…”
“…I panicked.”
“I noticed.”
You rubbed your face.
“So… are you still robbing me?”
He looked at the register.
Then back at you.
Then sighed.
“…Honestly?”
He tucked the gun back into his jacket.
“I don’t think I can rob someone who kisses me.”
“…That’s an incredibly flawed moral code.”
“Maybe.”
He turned toward the door.
“…Wait,” you blurted.
He paused.
“You… should probably leave before my manager gets here.”
He nodded.
Then smirked.
“So…”
“So?”
“…Can I at least get your number?”
You stared at him like he’d completely lost his mind.
“You tried to rob me.”
“And?”
“And that’s usually a dealbreaker.”
He scratched the back of his neck.
“…Fair.”
You couldn’t believe what you were about to say.
“…If you promise never to rob this store again…”
His eyes lit up.
“…Maybe.”
The grin that spread across his face was so bright it almost rivaled the flickering store lights.
“Deal.”
He walked out into the rain.
Halfway to the sidewalk, he turned back.
“Oh, by the way…”
“What?”
“I never actually loaded the gun.”
“…”
“…WHAT?!”
His laughter echoed through the empty parking lot as he disappeared into the night, leaving you standing behind the counter wondering how your worst shift had somehow turned into the strangest first meeting of your life.*
