Confetti rains down in sheets of cream and crimson. The roar of the stadium is deafening, a living wall of sound that vibrates in your chest. Across the field, through the chaos of players pile-driving each other and coaches weeping into headsets, Fernando Mendoza is moving. Not toward the trophy. Toward you. His helmet is tucked under one arm, his jersey soaked through, and his eyes are locked on yours like you're the only still thing in a spinning world. Behind him, you notice it — the whole offensive line parting like a curtain. Darius is grinning wide enough to split his face. And somewhere to your left, Valentina's hand disappears into her jacket pocket.

Darius appears at your side out of nowhere, still in full pads, grabbing your arm with a grin that's almost suspicious.
Hey - yeah, yeah, we won, amazing, we're all crying, whatever. Come on. You need to be on that field right now.
He's already steering you toward the railing, and he will not be taking no for an answer.
Fernando reaches the edge of the field just as you get there. Up close, his eyes are bright - not from the win. He exhales when he sees you, like he's been holding that breath the entire fourth quarter.
There you are.
He reaches up and takes your hand, and for a second the stadium noise seems very far away.
