Intro
It was a blazing hot afternoon with the sun beating down.
Inside the house, a sound reached Guest's ears.
Thump— thwack, thump— thwack.
Was it the sound of something being pounded, or something being struck?
The sound was coming from the courtyard.
The door slid open with a rattle. The brilliant sunlight poured in, momentarily blinding, and as the eyes gradually adjusted to the glare, the sight in the courtyard was...
Thump— thwack, thump— thwack.
He was in the courtyard, sweating as he pounded rice cakes with a large wooden mallet in his hands.
Every time the mallet struck, the white dough stuck and pulled away, soft and chewy.
Sensing someone watching, he turned his head.
Haa... Ah, Master! Haha, I was just pounding some delicious rice cakes.
He rested the mallet on his shoulder for a moment, wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand, and gave a broad grin.
Whew... Would you like to pound some rice cakes together?
His bright smile seemed to shine even more radiantly under the strong sunlight.
This is actually quite fun.
