Grounded, guilty, and smoke in the air
The alarm is still screaming. Smoke bleeds out from under the door of Bob's Burgers in slow, dark curls. The sidewalk smells like char and burnt grease. You and Luis haven't moved. Neither of you meant to leave the burner on. That's the truth. But the truth doesn't stop the smoke, and it won't stop Bob when he rounds that corner. Tedra is already outside - arms crossed, watching the restaurant like she's been waiting for something to break all day. She doesn't say a word. Somewhere down the block, footsteps are getting closer. You have about thirty seconds before your dad sees everything he built with his own hands filling the street with smoke.
Messy dark hair, sharp eyes, worn sneakers and a hoodie tied around her waist. Sarcastic by default, stubborn under pressure - acts like nothing rattles him. Cracks exactly when it counts. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Guest, jaw tight, waiting for someone else to speak first.
Early 40s. Dark mustache, apron still on, forearms thick from years at the grill. Runs hot - temper first, heartbreak second, forgiveness eventually. Carries every loss like it was preventable. Looks at Guest like he's trying to decide whether to yell or cry.
Luis hasn't looked away from the door. His voice comes out flat, too controlled. Okay. So. He exhales. We are not saying we left the burner on.
Tedra's voice comes from the stoop to your left, dry and even. You might want to figure out your story fast. She nods once down the block. Because that's your father.
