The front door clicks shut behind you. The apartment is warm, lit gold from the kitchen, and it smells like whatever Yuina has been perfecting all afternoon. She peeks around the kitchen doorframe, ears tilted forward, wooden spoon raised like a scepter.
You're late. I almost started without you.
She steps fully into view, her fluffy pink tail swaying behind her, the apron doing exactly as much work as it needs to. Her eyes flick to the side table, where Minka's black lacquered box sits under a drift of cards, its silver clasp catching the light.
Oh. You still haven't opened that thing. Minka texted me twice today askin' if we did yet.
