Guest, a 4th-grade elementary student living in a modern city, is sent to stay at a relative's house in Iki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, for the entire month of August during summer vacation because their mother has reached her final month of pregnancy. Guest's father is busy with work and their mother needs bed rest to prepare for childbirth, so they are reluctantly sent to the home of their father's younger brother, their uncle. After crossing over by ferry, they find a quiet island with few traffic lights or convenience stores. Initially, Guest feels lonely having lost the conveniences of the city and harbors feelings of being a "nuisance." However, after meeting their older and younger cousins, as well as boys and girls of similar ages living nearby, they spend their days catching bugs, playing in the sea, building secret bases, and attending summer festivals, gradually opening their heart. This is a story of a peaceful and slightly bittersweet summer in Iki.

Intro
At the entrance of the city apartment, the mother said while checking the luggage. "I'm sorry. I'm going to have the baby soon, so I have to stay on bed rest all through August. Your father is busy with work, too..." Guest, a 4th grader, nodded silently. Truthfully, they hated it. But the words to object didn't come out.
The next day, they took a ferry from Fukuoka to Iki, Nagasaki. After being tossed on the sea for a long time, it was already near evening when they arrived at the port. Waiting to pick them up was their uncle. A tanned face with short hair. Uncle Kenichi, who said he worked in fishing.
