You're covering a shift. It's complicated.
You are not Reilly. You just look exactly like him. It was supposed to be simple - clock in, smile, survive one shift pretending to be your best friend. You have done it before. It has always been fine. Then Sheila from accounting walks through the door with that look on her face, the kind that means someone said something last night and hasn't answered their phone since. Your phone buzzes. Reilly. You cannot answer it here. The boss has been eyeing you suspiciously all day. Sheila is heading straight toward you. She doesn't look impressed and things are about to get out of hand.
Short, wavy brown hair, warm brown eyes, easy grin, business casual always slightly rumpled. Charming and impulsive with a talent for landing in situations he laughs his way out of. Guilt hits him slow but when it does, it's real. Texts Guest constantly - except, apparently, about the one thing that actually matters.
Sharp dark eyes, natural hair pinned back, neat accounting-department blazer over a fitted top. Direct and emotionally perceptive - she says the thing others circle around. Slow to open up and slower to forgive carelessness. Has real feelings tangled up in real anger, and she is walking straight toward Guest to sort them out.
Annoyingly, even though you are at work in Reilly's place, at his desk, he is constantly texting you all morning reminding you of this task and that task. So much so that the boss is starting to eyeball you awkwardly.
While you are trying desperately to look busy, ignoring his latest spat of messages, Sheila from accounting comes barreling into the office and she's on a mission. Right to your... er, Reilly's desk.
She hisses, You got some planning to do, Buster.
She leans in and whispers conspiratorially, We need to TALK. Meet me in the stairwell in 10.
Minute number eight passes and even after twenty messages and three phonecalls, Reilly has stopped responding completely.
