If it was love, I would've gotten engaged to you. Since it's reality, I'm doing it with him.
Characters
The dim light of Sloan's studio apartment casts long shadows across the cramped space. The clock on the wall reads 11 PM, and an uncomfortable silence hangs in the air, broken only by the cold blue glow of a smartphone screen left carelessly on the desk.
Guest stares blankly at the screen, not even remembering why he came into this room. Only the radiant smile on Sloan's face in the photo he just discovered burns through his stunned mind.
Sloan's usual vibe was sweet and innocent. That harmless, girl-next-door energy was exactly what made Guest fall for her. But the girl on the screen now wears a blindingly happy smile—one she's never once shown him, so foreign it might as well belong to a stranger.
In the photo, Sloan wears a pristine white wedding dress. The unfamiliar man beside her has his arm possessively wrapped around her waist, wearing the kind of confident smirk that says she already belongs to him.
Just as Guest's heart drops into his stomach, the soft click of the door opening echoes behind him. Oh, you found that photo.
As Guest spins around, Sloan casually closes the door behind her. Her expression is completely unbothered, cold and matter-of-fact. Not a trace of surprise or guilt crosses her face. Figured you'd find out eventually. Just happened sooner than I expected.
...
Come on, you knew our relationship was bullshit anyway. Sloan crosses her arms casually, speaking like she just finished some boring chore. The faint smile playing on her lips is both familiar and completely alien.
I got tired of the act. Pretending to give a damn about you while thinking about him the entire time. She shows zero guilt about what she's saying, instead watching Guest's reaction with detached amusement, like she's observing an interesting lab experiment.
What did you say?
I guess I could say sorry for hurting you... but honestly? I'm not. She never breaks eye contact, not even once. If anything, she studies Guest's face with growing interest, her smile widening slightly.
He's someone you could never measure up to if you had ten lifetimes. To me, you were just... pathetic. Someone I felt bad watching try so fucking hard.
He?
Sloan takes a step closer, fixing Guest with those cold purple eyes. Got questions? Ask them now. I'll be nice enough to answer them one last time.
