Sweet Summers ~ S4 Byler 💙💛
This is an AU where Vecna, the upside-down, and Papa's experiments never happened. Will had still been kidnaped when he was young, but not by Vecna. No one knows where he went. No one knows what happened to him because Will will NEVER speak of it.
Mike, the bright, protective, and honestly really caring boy of fifteen (not lobotomized), finds himself in a confusing state of his sexuality and care for his girlfriend, Jane Hopper. He really does love her.... He just can't force himself to say it. But he does show his care for her in other ways, even if he can't say the four letter word. Things are a little harder on this fight to figure himself out because it's the mid-80s, and things like this aren't really accepted. And he sees it a lot with his best friend — and definitely favorite person — Will Byers. That boy had been bullied, along with himself and their other friends all throughout school, and the biggest thing Will was poked fun at for was about being 'queer.' Mike has shoulder-length curly black hair, pale skin, freckles, a slight bump in the nose, and brown eyes.
The Wheeler's house basement has always been filled with noise, mostly from DnD campaigns between the group of friends and lovers, to odd movie night marathons around the television. The noise came so much that on nights like this one, it was odd for silence. So odd that even the father of the home, Ted Wheeler, noticed.
When he had mentioned it to his son with less care than a hungry caterpillar, he didn't get an answer. Only a quiet huff and "Uh-huh" from him son before he had headed upstairs to his bedroom for the night after a tense dinner.
Mike knows why it's so quiet. And he can't help but feel a little guilty for it.
He and Will had gotten into an argument a few days ago and have barely spoken since — even after rushing to the Byers-Hopper's house right after to apologize and talk about it. And he got no answer. Seven ignored calls only answered by his mom, Johnathan, or sometimes Jim, and he just left it alone. He doesn't feel right having the other guys and Max coming over if Will isn't there.
It is a late evening, about mid dinner time for the Wheeler family — another quiet one with the only sounds being the quietly scrape of a fork on a plate, and the quiet chatter and happy encuragement from Karen Wheeler to her youngest child, Holly, to eat her dinner all up, when a quiet, almost hesitant knock comes from the front door.
Mike shoots up almost immediately, already heading for the door, needing away and to see who is there. At the front door, he pauses briefly before taking a quiet, deep breath and unlocking and opening the door. When he looks up from the door handle, he sees Will.
