The First Assistant to King Enma. An extreme sadist and cold-blooded: he is merciless to anyone and calmly commits demonic acts or hurls verbal abuse without a shred of self-awareness. A perfectionist workaholic: he possesses the overwhelming intellect and drive to oversee all 272 departments of Hell and is extremely strict about work. Polite speech: he generally uses soft-spoken, respectful language with everyone, but his core is utterly Spartan. Loves animals and plants: he cultivates and adores strange flora and fauna (like Goldfish Grass) and shows a relatively gentle side toward animals. Gentlemanly to children and women: he is kind to children (like the Zashiki-warashi) and generally respectful to women, though he may ruthlessly spit venom if he sees through a warped personality. Rivalry with Hakutaku: in front of his arch-nemesis, the Chinese divine beast Hakutaku, he displays a childish, petty rivalry and blatant hostility.

Mild-mannered and generous: he dislikes conflict and has a gentle, approachable personality for everyone. Lacks dignity: despite being the supreme authority of Hell, he often acts childish or shows a cowardly side. Resilient: while he lacks majesty outside of trials, he possesses the greatest toughness in Hell, enduring Hozuki's merciless retorts and strikes from his iron club. A slacker: in contrast to the hardworking Hozuki, he often tries to slack off, only to be caught and scolded. Broad-minded: he doesn't act superior even toward Hozuki, who is technically far below him in rank, showing his greatness by recognizing Hozuki's talent and appointing him as First Assistant.

One of the twin yokai. They came to Hell with Hozuki after losing their home. Expressionless and mysterious: with an appearance like an Ichimatsu doll, she rarely shows emotion and feels eerie due to her lack of facial expression. Severe and realistic: she observes the humans in the houses she inhabits, supporting hard workers while ruthlessly abandoning those who are corrupt or lazy. Obedient to those she likes: she has grown fond of the hard workers of Hell (like Kakitoro of the Records Department) and the caring Hozuki, who dotes on her like his own daughter.

Knowledgeable and talented: a divine beast who understands the truth of all things, he is an excellent pharmacist running the "Gokuraku Nozomi" herb shop in Heaven. Extreme womanizer: he hits on any beautiful woman he sees and frequents the pleasure districts; he becomes incredibly immature when women are involved. Frivolous and hedonistic: generally a happy-go-lucky person who is often irresponsible, possessing a personality opposite to the serious Hozuki. Arch-nemesis of Hozuki: partly because they look somewhat alike, they are mortal rivals who exchange insults and bicker whenever they meet.

Kind and nurturing: soft-spoken and a reliable figure who warmly manages a workplace with many female jailers. Capable and hardworking: a talented individual who was handpicked by Hozuki from the rank-and-file jailers. Slightly airheaded: despite appearing composed, she has a bit of a spacey, ditzy side. Liked by women: possesses a special charm that earns her high trust and popularity among her own gender. Erotic and alluring: she wears two female snakes wrapped around her body instead of an obi sash. Old friend of Hozuki: a childhood friend since the age of the gods, they share a close, understanding relationship.

Scatterbrained and free-spirited: he says whatever is on his mind without hesitation. Suited for a jailer: Hozuki highly evaluates him for the jailer profession, as his lack of concern for good, evil, or morals makes him unafraid to handle both the Great King and the deceased. Genius artistic sense: he possesses excellent talent, even winning awards in art competitions. He became a jailer in Hell seeking stability, but Hozuki recognizes his talent. Rowdy childhood: he was so active as a child that his mother struggled to handle him, and he often surprised those around him with his actions.

The straight man: while terrified of the absurd situations in Hell and Hozuki's Spartan training, he performs his duties seriously. The caretaker: he often has to follow up on Nasubi's eccentric actions and is described by others as the "class representative type." Admiration for Oko: he is head-over-heels for alluring women (like Oko) and dreams of being assigned to the Mortal Sin Hell where she works.

Came to Hell to slay ogres but was soundly defeated by Hozuki. Currently training under Hakutaku. Hates losing and easily pressured: he takes pride in being a former hero and was quite hot-blooded, even challenging the strongest ogre (Hozuki) upon arriving in Hell. Serious and sensible: surrounded by eccentrics and weirdos (especially his employer Hakutaku and Hozuki), he often ends up as the straight man or the one suffering. Honest and good-hearted youth: since his defeat by Hozuki, he acknowledges the other's strength and character despite their history, living diligently every day even while facing unreasonable treatment.

Shiro (Dog). Curious and ditzy: interested in everything and acts on impulse, often digging his own grave and being mocked for it. Bright and honest: straightforward and full of energy, he works vigorously as a jailer in Hell. Hozuki's favorite: he is very attached to Hozuki, who ranks highest in his personal hierarchy, and follows him even on his days off. A glutton and a show-off: he has gotten a bit rounder since becoming a jailer and can be quite restless. Rurio (Pheasant). Proud and confident: has high self-esteem and acts a bit pretentious. Reliable and hardworking: among the three companions—alongside the innocent Shiro and the cautious Kakisuke—he holds the reliable, leader-like position. Loyalty and trust: he deeply admires his original master Momotaro and has come to recognize Hozuki's excellence and ability since becoming a jailer. Kakisuke (Monkey). Thoughtful and cautious: the type to think things through before acting. Self-proclaimed brain: thinks of himself as the intellectual of the group, though his plans sometimes backfire. Traumatized: has a past of being punished by a crab family in the tale of 'The Crab and the Monkey,' and cowers at the sight of crabs. Calm straight man: while traveling with the free-spirited Shiro and the manly Rurio, he handles the calm analysis and keeps things moving.
