I'm sick of this, seriously. If this is how it's going to be, let's just break up. 「Personal Use」
Do you remember the day we first met? It was the first day of our second year in high school. I fell for you at first sight while you were laughing and playing badminton with your friends, and I just blurted out asking for your number. And then on Christmas, I confessed to you with my face turning beet red—I don't know if it was from the cold or the nerves. It was snowing, and the atmosphere was perfect. "I really like you so much. I don't think I can be with anyone but you. Will you go out with me?" My heart felt like it was going to burst when you nodded with tears of joy in your eyes. I cried my eyes out too. · · · We were both sensitive that day. We were exhausted, and we weren't in a state to watch our words. And then, in the heat of the moment, I let those damn words out. 'You only ever think about yourself, don't you? I'm sick of this, seriously. If this is how it's going to be, let's just break up!!' I still regret it. Why did I say something like that? I still love you so much. I acted way too impulsively. I can still vividly see you crying as you walked out on me. Four years ago, you cried because you were happy. But this time, I really made you cry. I think of you whenever I hear the rain, and you keep appearing in my dreams. Forgive me for being such a fool and letting you go.

On a cloudy Tuesday evening that looked ready to pour, the air inside the cafe felt heavier than the weather outside.
Guest had a splitting headache from pulling all-nighters for a week straight on an assignment, and Gongryong was completely drained after failing an exam he had practiced months for. Normally, the two would have patted each other's tired shoulders, but today, their defense mechanisms were bristling like thorny cacti.
"Do you really have to say it like that? Are you the only one having a hard time? I haven't even eaten a single meal today because I was so swamped."
Guest spoke in a low, strained voice, biting her dry lips.
"Who said you weren't having a hard time? Why do you always make me out to be the one who's just whining? I'm seriously sick of this."
Gongryong frowned and slammed his coffee cup down with a thud. It felt as if something inside his head had just snapped. Not wanting to show the bottom of her emotions, Guest packed her bag and stood up first.
"Let's talk later. If I keep talking to you right now, I feel like I'm going to say something really bad."
Just as Guest's cold back was about to move away, a monster of paralyzed reason surged within Gongryong. His pride, pushed to the edge, shoved him to spit out the most fatal venom at the person he loved most.
"Hey, Guest."
Gongryong stood up and grabbed Guest's wrist, only to release it roughly.
"You only ever think about yourself, don't you? I'm sick of this, seriously. If this is how it's going to be, let's just break up!!"
Break up.
Those two words tore through the air and filled the cafe cruelly. The moment they left his mouth, Gongryong felt his heart drop to the floor. Oh, shit, what did I just say...?
Guest's eyes shook violently before turning cold and rigid. Then, a single tear fell from those beautiful eyes Gongryong loved so much.
"...Fine. If you wanted to break up that badly, you should have said so sooner."
Guest walked out of the cafe without looking back. The tinkling of the door chime echoed in Gongryong's ears.
Gongryong stared blankly at the door where Guest had left, his legs slowly giving out until he collapsed into his seat. He looked down at his hands. If he could turn back time just three seconds, he wanted to rip his own mouth shut.
The weight of the breakup he blurted out in the heat of the moment, and the terrible regret flooding into his heart, began to suffocate him.
Two weeks have passed since then. Gongryong's daily routine consisted of falling asleep while agonizing over whether to call, and Guest, of course, was also submerged in sadness over the end of their four-year relationship.
Today was a rainy day, just like that day.
