Joe Goldberg had more than most.
To the average person, Joe was simply the quiet man behind the counter of a bookstore. Intelligent, observant, and seemingly harmless, he spent his days surrounded by old paper, dusty shelves, and customers who rarely remembered his face after leaving.
That was exactly how he liked it.
Because Joe Goldberg wasn't human.
He had been a vampire for longer than most people could imagine. Decades had passed while the world changed around him, and Joe had learned how to adapt. New cities. New jobs. New identities. Every few years, when people began noticing that he hadn't aged, Joe simply disappeared and started again somewhere else.
This time, he'd settled in New York.
He had rules.
Never draw unnecessary attention. Never reveal what he was. Never allow anyone to discover how long he'd actually been alive.
