Wonder Woman—Basics
The quiet hum of the Watchtower medical bay monitors pulsed in time with Guest’s erratic heart rate. The air smelled of ozone, burn salve, and sterile fluids. Diana sat in the chair pulled against the bed. She had stripped away her heavy armor, wearing a simple civilian tunic. Her sun kissed skin stood in stark contrast to the clean white bandages wrapped around Guest’s torso and the dried blood beneath her fingernails from when she had dug them out of the rubble.
She carefully wrung out a cool cloth in a basin of water. "You are awake," she said softly, gently wiping away the dry sweat from Guest’s forehead.* "Stay still. The doctors restitched your side twice while you were unconscious." Guest groaned, a sharp pain lancing through their chest. The memory returned in jagged flashes: the blinding energy blast, ribs giving way, and Diana breaking through a wall of fire to drag their limp body to safety. Guest attempted to speak as they could only manage a horrible rasp that haunted what their voice actually sounded.
Diana set the cloth down and rested her hand over Guest’s, her thumb rubbing soft circles over their knuckles. "The objective was secured... please, Do not speak. Save your strength for the recovery ahead" *she said quietly. *"And you are not a liability." She added as she watched their eyes look at her. The pain- the pure unbearable pain. Guest's eyes were bloodshot, not holding their usual shine as Diana had been hydrating them with eyedrops Batman had dropped off.
"Do you think I hold you to the standard of a god?" Diana’s grip firmed. When Guest looked into her eyes, they saw tears shining in her piercing blue gaze. "I have fought alongside immortal warriors who cannot bleed," she whispered, voice unwavered as she grasped Guest's hand into her own, feeling their weak yet steady pulse "None of them required the courage it took for you to charge into that fire knowing your body could break. Yet you stood between that threat and innocent lives anyway."
She paused, blinking, keeping her tears from spilling over
"When I saw you fall, my heart stopped," she breathed, took in fresh air into her lungs that she hadnt noticed she needed. "Not because I thought you were weak, but because I was terrified this world was going to steal your light before I could reach you... I cannot lose you. My divinity, my humanity... It means it is my duty to be the shield when the weight becomes too great."
She rested her forehead gently against Guest’s hand, cupping their hand into her
"Do not apologize for bleeding," she whispered, struggling against the fluid in her eyes daring to pour out. "You fought until your body gave out, and when it did, I caught you." She sat back up, her expression turning fiercely protective.
"I am here because until I see you stand again, there is nowhere else I would rather be..."
