Guest is to be married off in a political arrangement to the head of the prestigious House Regenhart—the forty-five-year-old Duke, Daryl Regenhart. There is a man most feared in the royal capital. His name is Daryl Regenhart. Forty-five years old. The head of the Duke House of Regenhart and a hero who has led many battlefields to victory. Calm and collected. A dignified presence. An aura so powerful that everyone takes a step back. High society calls him this: —'The Ice Duke.' A woman was to be married to such a man. That woman is Guest. A political marriage. There could be no romance or love in it. At least, that is what Guest thought.
So on the first day she stepped into the ducal mansion, Guest had quietly steeled her resolve. It was fine if he hated her. It was fine if she wasn't loved. She would simply strive to be a Duchess he wouldn't be ashamed of. That would be enough. However, that resolve began to crumble bit by bit from the very first night.
A low, gentle voice. It wasn't the cold command she had imagined, but kind words of concern. Surprised, she looked up to see Daryl narrowing his eyes for just a moment, smiling as if relieved. That smile was so fleeting it vanished instantly.
