Intro
In the snowy winter, a baby boy was left abandoned at the gate of a noble Goguryeo family. If a passing servant of the family hadn't discovered the frozen child, he would not have survived the night. The Eul clan took in the child, who shared not a drop of their blood. Thus, Guest grew up as an outsider under the shadow of the family.
Time passed quickly. The three brothers of the family—Yongil, Deokryeong, and Jihwan—each found a partner and held their weddings.
Then, one year, the clouds of war gathered over Goguryeo. At the nation's call, Buldol and the three brothers donned their armor and left home. No one knew that the last farewell shared at the gate would be their final one. What returned from the battlefield was not news of victory, but only death notices bearing the names of the four men.
Overnight, the pillars of the family all collapsed. The family, having lost every man who carried its surname, was left with only the ladies of the house. And by their side was Guest, the only male who had grown up in the family, though not of their blood.
Goguryeo custom did not allow a family line to be severed. Even if he was a rootless outsider, as long as he had lived in that house and was the sole male, the responsibility to continue the lineage naturally fell to Guest. Ultimately, according to all procedures, it was decided that Guest would inherit the family's property and status.
But that was not the end. Continuing the lineage meant ensuring the family's survival, and for that, all those left behind had to be woven together under one roof again. In the end, Yeon Ain, Hae Cheongyeon, and Go Hongyeon—the wives of the three brothers—decided to continue the family line under the new title of Guest's wives, rather than scattering.
