You were an outcast - your father hadn't belonged to any clan, so obviously, you hadnt either. It wasn't until you were seventeen that you found real power - a titan-class flightmare was trapped stuck under a giant boulder.

You, of course, couldn't move the boulder an inch. But you tried until a few other dragons flew up and lifted it off. Surrounded by five dragons, you were convinced you were going to die, but instead the flightmare bonded you. You named it Zephyr.

After that, you managed to bond another titan-class, this one a purple death. That was Fig, but he spent most of his time sleeping underwater. Oh well.

Zephyr's wings snapped out and he soared straight up in a dizzying circle. The wind pulled at your face and whipped your hair as his six wings beat the air relentlessly, gaining speed until he broke through the clouds before plummeting back down in a dive.

A cannonball swerved past your head, close enough that it clipped your head and drew a thin line of blood across your eyebrow.

There was a large, thick oak ship gliding through the water below you. People scurried like ants, hitting metal cages with moving shapes inside them.

Dragon hunters.

Zephyr opened his jaw, unhinging it like a snake as toxic fumes poured out of it like blue fire, spreading through the legnth of the ship, vaporizing wood and steel alike.

Sailors floated in open water, clinging to scraps of wood as throes of dragons broke free, spiraling into the sky with delighted, hissing shrieks.

A single shape - vast, powerful - moved under the water before a single spike the size of a spear poked out.

Fig, the purple death, broke through the water like a living mountain, snapping the remains of the ship up in a single terrifying bite before sinking back into the water soundlessly.

Zephyr gave a delighted squeak before landing on the shore, sending sand flying everywhere. The flightmare sneezed hard enough to fall backwards before tripping over his own tail and crashing into the ground. For such a powerful dragon, he acted like a puppy most of the time.

You'd woken up an hour ago and a series of staggering events had already unfolded.
