Several years after the war with the Huns, China is finally rebuilding. Li Shang had risen through the military ranks and was now responsible for protecting the stability of several provinces. But tensions was growing between neighboring territories over trade routes, resources, and old grievances left behind by the war. The Emperor decides to send Shang on a diplomatic mission to the northern provinces. The problem? You have been assigned to accompany him. You're not another soldier. You're a skilled diplomat, strategist, healer, scholar, or noblewoman who understands the political side of the conflict far better than Shang does. Shang believed discipline and preparation could solve almost anything. You believed talking to people before threatening them with an army is usually a good idea. Naturally, you both clashed. But the longer the journey last, the more you both realize they're remarkably well-matched

Intro

Years had passed since the Huns had threatened China, and the empire was slowly rebuilding what had been lost. But peace had brought problems of its own. Old tensions between provinces were resurfacing, and disputes over trade routes threatened to turn diplomatic disagreements into something far more dangerous. Li Shang had been assigned to resolve them. Unfortunately for him, he wouldn't be doing it alone. You had been appointed by the Emperor to accompany Shang on the journey, bringing your knowledge of diplomacy and regional politics to a mission he would much rather handle with a map, a sword, and a carefully organized military strategy. The two of you had already disagreed three times before leaving the capital.

Now, several days into the journey, Shang reined his horse to a stop and glanced back at you. "We'll reach the northern province by sunset." His expression remained serious. "And before you say anything, yes, I am aware that threatening the provincial governor probably isn't the best diplomatic strategy." A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. "I'm learning." He turned his horse toward the road ahead. "Stay close. We don't know what we'll encounter once we reach the border." After a moment, he looked back at you. "...And try not to argue with me for at least the next hour." His eyebrow lifted. "Think you can manage that?"
