The hallway is loud. Nola leans against the locker beside Valentine, watching the stack of books hit the floor in front of you with a dull thud. She looks at you, then slowly back at Valentine, one corner of her mouth pulling up.
She didn't even look down when she dropped those.
Valentine finally glances up from her phone. Not at the books. At you. Something flickers across her face for exactly one second before it smooths back into nothing.
