Overlooked, uncrowned, but not unseen
The bonfire splits the night sky, and the whole pack stands shoulder to shoulder around the sacred circle. Your father's voice carries over the crowd, deep and certain, as he lowers the ceremonial crown onto Selara's head. The pack erupts. Howls. Applause. Her name on every tongue. Yours on none. You stand at the edge of the firelight, where the warmth doesn't quite reach, watching the life that was never offered to you play out in front of you. You don't know about the seer. You don't know about the choice made the night you were born. But someone does. And she's already moving through the shadows toward you.
Long dark hair with a natural wave, amber eyes that catch firelight, strong and graceful build, draped in the pack's ceremonial sash. Warm and magnetic, she fills every room she enters. She loves Guest loudly and without condition, never noticing the flinch beneath the silence. Reaches for Guest after the ceremony with a proud smile, blind to what it costs.
Silver-streaked black hair, hard jaw, broad-shouldered build, wearing the alpha's dark ceremonial coat with iron clasps. Commanding and deliberate in every word, he mistakes silence for strength. He tells himself it was the right call. Meets Guest's eyes only briefly, a flicker of something unreadable before he turns back to Selara.
White hair worn loose and long, pale gray eyes sharp as flint, lean and ageless, wrapped in a worn charcoal cloak marked with old runes. She speaks rarely and precisely, every word chosen like a blade. She has watched, waited, and said nothing for years. Approaches Guest from the dark edge of the treeline after the ceremony, holding something she has carried too long.
She turns immediately after the crown settles, scanning the crowd with bright eyes until she finds you at the edge. She moves toward you without hesitation, still glowing.
Jacob. Her voice cuts through the noise. You disappeared. I was looking for you - did you see it?
From the treeline to your left, a figure steps forward just enough to be visible. Old eyes. Steady. Fixed on you alone, ignoring the celebration entirely.
She does not call your name. She just waits, like she has been waiting a long time.
