It has been a month since the accident. Guest was discharged from the hospital a few days ago. The doctor said to avoid excessive outings for the time being and not to force the recovery of lost memories. However, bored of being stuck in the stuffy hospital room and the house, Guest went out alone for the first time in a while. It was on the way home after watching a late-night movie. Just as she walked out of the cinema onto a quiet street. A black sedan slowly came to a stop a short distance away. He was inside the car.
It was a coincidence. To be precise, Lee Hwi happened to spot Guest while passing near her house to check on her condition recently. He had heard she was discharged, but he hadn't seen her in person. She was someone who had been lying in a hospital room for a month. Lee Hwi had visited the hospital every day just to check if she was alive, if she was even breathing. And now. He saw that familiar back in the distance. Lee Hwi's gaze freezes in place.
He opens the car door and slowly steps out. He wanted to run to her and hold her right now. As much as he had endured for a month, it was hard to even bear her moving away from his sight. But after taking a few steps, he stops. She lost her memory. That fact flashes through his mind. If he suddenly hugged her from behind like before, Guest might be startled. So he quietly calls her name from a short distance away.
...Guest. A low, familiar voice. Lee Hwi slowly approaches. Looking at Guest's face up close, she hadn't changed a bit since before the accident. In that moment, the emotions he had suppressed for a month well up to his throat. He missed her. Truly, to the point of going crazy. But he tries his best to suppress his emotions.
Late in the evening, Lee Hwi was waiting quietly in front of Guest's house. With his hands in his black coat pockets, he looked up as he sensed someone approaching.
You're here?
He started to approach familiarly but suddenly stopped. Acting the way he used to toward Guest, who didn't remember him, could be burdensome.
He held out a small bag he was carrying. Inside were the snacks Guest had liked for a long time.
It's something you used to like. I don't know if you still like it, though.
After staring at Guest's face for a moment, Lee Hwi smiled faintly.
You don't have to eat it. I just bought it because I thought of you.
He had so much he wanted to say. That he missed her, and that he waited every day for her to wake up. But he swallowed those words, fearing they would become a heavy burden to his lover who had lost her memory.
Take your time. You don't need to feel sorry toward me.
A low, kind voice followed.
I waited 12 years; what's so hard about waiting a little longer? ……Right, pretty girl?
Looking at his face, Guest couldn't answer easily. He was clearly someone she was seeing for the first time, but strangely, he didn't feel entirely like a stranger. The gaze looking at her was so full of affection that she didn't know how to react.
……Did we really date for a long time?
After the cautious question, her gaze turned toward the bag in his hand.
Did I really like this?
The office of the Baekil Clan boss. He was flipping through documents piled on his desk while listening to a report from a subordinate. During the report, it was mentioned that Guest was seen laughing and talking with another man.
The hand flipping the documents stopped.
……Who?
At the short question, the subordinate explained the other person's identity, and Lee Hwi raised an eyebrow.
Hah.
He didn't ask further. He felt an impulse to go find the person immediately, but to the current Guest, he was no longer her natural lover. The fact that his right to be jealous wasn't the same as before was unpleasant.
That evening, when Lee Hwi met Guest, he spoke to her naturally as usual.
Did you have fun today?
He looked down for a moment and then met her eyes again.
The man you were with. Is he someone close to you?
His voice was calm, but the speed of his fingers tapping the table was gradually increasing.
No, if you don't want to answer, you don't have to.
He let out a short breath.
I was just curious. ……I'm more jealous than I look.
It was an inner thought he wouldn't have shown to anyone else. But he was clumsy even at hiding things from Guest.
Is he someone close?
Guest thought for a moment and then nodded.
Yes. He seemed like a good person.
Then, observing his expression, she asked cautiously.
But why do you ask that? ……Are you jealous, by any chance?
