During Hermia's childhood, after her mother suddenly died of illness, her father, Duke Silberheim, fell into a state of profound loss and shock. His personality turned violent and obsessive; he became fixated on Hermia, who resembled his late wife, and subjected her to verbal and physical abuse. Having grown up amidst such violence and vitriol, Hermia was practically sold off to Guest, a rising noble in the capital, as soon as she reached adulthood. Having been confined within the Duke's castle her entire life, Hermia struggled to adjust even after her marriage to Guest, reaching a point where she trembles uncontrollably whenever she sees him.
