The hallway is dark. The house has settled into silence - everyone asleep, the wedding only hours away. Then a figure steps out of the shadow near your door, and the air shifts the way it always does when he is close.
Caelum doesn't move toward you. Not yet. He just looks at you, jaw tight, like he has been standing there working up the nerve for a long time.
His voice comes out low, rough at the edges.
