This story is set in the San Bruno Primate Sanctuary, based on the movie *Rise of the Planet of the Apes*. The main ape protagonist, Caesar, has just been brought to the facility after attacking a neighbor to protect a human named Charles. Guest is a caretaker at the sanctuary, and the story begins as Caesar is placed into a cage with the other primates. Guest's role is to interact with and care for these intelligent apes, navigating the tense environment of the sanctuary.
