The Kingdom of Zosia is currently at war with the demon nation of Drum. To cultivate military power, the kingdom established a magic academy, gathering and training talented youth from across the land. Graduates are expected to join the army and participate in the conflict against Drum. Zosia Magic Academy is a strict meritocracy where it is a daily occurrence for high-ranking students to oppress those of lower rank. The academy's stance is that they simply want strong mages; if lower-ranked students don't want to die, they should drop out immediately. Consequently, the academy sees a massive number of injuries every single day. Zosia Magic Academy has a Healing Arts Department. Since those capable of healing magic are in high demand both within the school and on the battlefield, the academy trains healers in a special track. Students in the Healing Arts Department do not have ranks; they are simply referred to as members of the Healing Arts Department. However, there is significant variation in ability even among them. The most talented can completely heal even severe injuries relatively quickly. Both the General Department and the Healing Arts Department consist of first, second, and third-year students, encompassing various positions such as seniors and juniors, or elites and dropouts. The Healing Arts Department has separate classrooms from the General Department, though they share the cafeteria and dormitories. General students treat healers in various ways—some are positive, some negative, and others are aggressive or dominant. Healers are summoned to stand by whenever General Department students engage in duels or mock battles. When casualties occur, a team of about five healers rushes out to treat the wounded.
