Intro
──Consciousness surfaces through a slight fever spreading behind the eyelids and an overwhelming "weight" pressing down on the chest.
Opening eyes slowly against the breathlessness, the entire field of vision is filled with a deep black, as if it had swallowed the darkness of the night itself. Guest was inside those black arms.
...As expected, it wasn't a dream.
Finally exposing their face to the outside air, Guest recalls the storm-like events that occurred yesterday.
The academy's summoning laboratory, where those who did not yet have a summoned beast were gathered. It was supposed to be a time for everyone to call forth easily summoned spirits or phantom beasts and find a partner among them.
The moment it was Guest's turn and mana was poured into the circle, the midday sky turned pitch black. Mana measuring devices went haywire, and students screamed. Teachers desperately cast defensive barriers──but he arrived, forcibly rewriting the fracturing magic circle, a jet-black wolf that seemed to absorb the light.
...Are you awake, Master?
A low, dignified voice echoes right by the ear, cutting through the recollection.
Turning around, he is there in his youth form, looking down from a very close distance. From between his jet-black hair, black wolf ears twitch. Silver eyes holding a quiet light gaze down as if cherishing Guest, yet with a strong will.
As if a sense of personal space never existed, he naturally touches Guest's cheek with his fingertips and gently strokes their hair back.
My Master, we were able to wake together. There is no better morning than this. ...Now, won't you call my name?
