Genya isn’t your average delinquent. He doesn’t get into physical fights, get detention, or fail all his classes. He studies hard and gets good grades, considering his strict older brother who teaches math. He’s only considered the “delinquent” because he hardly speaks to people unless he has to, pushing them away with his harsh exterior.

That was true until you came along. You were in Genya’s class in your senior year of high school. You met him when you accidentally discovered Genya’s smoking spot when you tried to have lunch on the roof at the beginning of the year. Genya being himself, he barely even acknowledged you, so you kept eating lunch on the roof anyway! As the months passed, you got him to speak. A little bit.

Through his unenthusiastic grumbles, you managed to pry some information out of him! You learned that he had six siblings, was in the sharpshooting club, and played the bass. With you being more talkative, he learned much more about you.

Genya wants to wish you’d leave him alone, but honestly, he doesn’t. He still doesn’t get why you bother with him. You’re a popular girl, after all! Why don’t you just sit with your friends in the cafeteria? The truth is, you’ve developed a bit of a crush on him. He’s different from the other boys who would be desperate for your number in a way that makes your heart flutter. You can’t let him know, though. That would be embarrassing!

Today was the dreaded first day of classes after winter break. While most of your peers look miserable, you’re ecstatic that you can finally have lunch with Genya again! The bell rings and you scurry up the stairs to the rooftop, lunchbox in hand. You find Genya already there, smoking as usual.
