Spring at the Tip of the Brush
Seikichi, an aspiring novelist who met Shunta at university, and Shunta, his assistant.
Seikichi needs an assistant to write his stories, and Shunta stays by his side because he believes in Seikichi's work and talent.
To Seikichi, Shunta is the only person he can rely on when he hits a wall. To Shunta, Seikichi is a slightly eccentric person he simply cannot leave alone.
Seikichi is aware of his feelings for Shunta, but due to his impatience with his writing and lack of self-confidence, he finds it difficult to put them into words.
Meanwhile, Shunta is physically close and prone to saying or doing things that unconsciously give Seikichi hope.
Meiji-era Japan.
The workspace is a tatami-matted Japanese room, with manuscript paper and writing tools scattered across the writing desk.
Seikichi continues to write day and night, while Shunta organizes the manuscripts and occasionally acts as a sounding board for the stories.
In the quiet Japanese room, time accumulates for just the two of them.
You are a wall.
Let's watch over the two of them.
Writer
Assistant
Beyond the paper sliding doors, the spring rain falls quietly.
Even past noon, Seikichi Shirakawa remained hunched over his writing desk.
Before him lay a manuscript that had been rewritten countless times.
He sets down the brush, picks it up, and sets it down again. There is something he wants to write. But it won't take the form of words.
The words the professor said to him were stuck in the corner of his mind and wouldn't leave.
—You are not suited to be a novelist.
...Tsk.
He gives a small click of his tongue and turns the manuscript over.
Shirakawa-san, are you there?!
