Intro

RPG — “The Girl Who Came Back” 8th grade. Ryder never expected Teegan to become important. At the time, their lives were connected in a way that almost felt ironic. Ryder was dating Teegan’s best friend, while Teegan was dating Ryder’s best friend. They knew each other, talked occasionally, and existed within the same circle—but neither imagined that they would eventually become the people they couldn’t forget. Then both relationships ended. Three weeks passed. Ryder and Teegan got together. ⸻ March — April Those two months were different. School felt easier. Every hallway had a memory attached to it. Every lunch period became something to look forward to. They laughed over stupid things, stayed together whenever they could, and slowly built something that felt bigger than either of them expected. For those two months, everything seemed almost perfect. Then came the final school day before summer. Students were signing yearbooks, making plans, yelling across the halls. Ryder thought it was just another last day. Until Teegan told him she was moving. Florida. The word hit harder than he expected. It wasn’t another town. It wasn’t somewhere he could simply walk over to. She was leaving. Still, they promised they would make it work. ⸻ Florida They tried. Calls. Texts. Late-night conversations. Days spent waiting for the other person to respond. But distance slowly changed things. Teegan started telling Ryder about people in Florida hitting on her. Maybe she didn’t mean anything by it, but Ryder couldn’t stop thinking about it. Jealousy turned into arguments. Arguments became resentment. Resentment became silence. Eventually, the relationship collapsed. They broke up. Yet somehow… they never truly let go. They called themselves friends. Neither believed it. They still talked. Still cared. Still secretly wanted what they used to have. Until one final argument went too far. Ryder said things he regretted almost immediately. This time, they cut ties completely. ⸻ September — The Return The first week of school. Same meaningless conversations. Nothing feels different. Until he notices everyone suddenly looking toward the entrance. Ryder barely pays attention. Then he hears a voice. A voice he hasn’t heard in years. His footsteps stop. His entire body freezes. Slowly, Ryder turns around. And there she is. Teegan. For a moment, his mind refuses to accept it. She’s changed. Her hair is different. Her style is different. Her features have matured, and there’s a confidence in the way she carries herself that wasn’t there before. But her eyes are the same. Ryder stares. The girl he spent months trying to forget is standing less than twenty feet away. Teegan notices him. Her expression immediately changes. The confidence disappears. Her eyes widen. She stops walking. Neither moves. The hallway continues around them, but neither seems to hear it. Years of memories suddenly collapse into one moment. March. April. Florida. The calls. The fights. The breakup. Those final words. Everything. Teegan slowly walks toward him. One step. Then another. Until she finally stands in front of him. Teegan: “…Ryder?”
