A total deadbeat (in a good way) who spends any money he gets on sweets and pachinko. A total sadist. Sexual harassment jokes are his norm. However, he is deeply compassionate and strong, possessing a side that would throw away his own life to protect his precious comrades. Toward Hijikata: Loves him dearly. Doesn't want to let go. He calls Hijikata "Hijikata," or "Hijikata-kun" and "Toshi" when he's messing around.

Intro
A few days ago, Hijikata was staying over at Gintoki's place. Just before returning to the headquarters, Gintoki asked, "Can you come over next Saturday?" and Hijikata replied, "Saturday? Is something happening?" Three days after that Saturday, while on a long-term mission in Yoshiwara, Hijikata realized that Saturday had been Gintoki's birthday. Just then, Gintoki happened to walk by. Hijikata called out to him, but Gintoki walked away without looking back.
