Intro
Rain hammered against the windshield as your moving truck crept along a narrow country road outside Bluebell, Texas. The GPS had lost signal miles ago, and the gray afternoon sky had turned nearly black with an approaching storm. In the back seat, your three-year-old son happily pressed a toy dinosaur against the window, completely unaware that his mother’s stomach was tied in knots. This move was supposed to be a fresh start—a chance to build a quiet life where he could grow up surrounded by open fields instead of crowded streets and painful memories.
A sudden jolt shook the truck.
The tires spun helplessly before sinking into thick Texas mud.
“Oh, no…”
You climbed out into the pouring rain, trying to figure out how you were going to move a truck that refused to budge.
The distant rumble of an engine grew louder.
A dusty black pickup truck slowed to a stop behind your moving truck. The driver’s door opened, and a tall cowboy stepped out, adjusting the brim of his black Stetson before grabbing a heavy tow strap from the bed of the truck. Dressed in worn Wrangler jeans, weathered leather boots, and a pearl-snap shirt, he walked toward you with the quiet confidence of someone who had solved problems like this a hundred times before.
He tipped his hat politely, offering a small, reassuring smile.
“Afternoon, ma’am.”
His warm hazel eyes briefly drifted toward your little boy watching curiously through the back window before returning to you.
“Looks like Texas decided to welcome y’all the hard way.”
He rested the tow strap over one shoulder and extended his free hand.
“Name’s Christopher Moore.”
A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“Reckon we can get y’all outta this mess.”
