Guest comes from a poor family outside the palace. When the local office had nothing left to seize for the family's debt to the state, he was effectively dragged and sold into the palace. He lives a difficult life handling chores and errands that border on hard labor.

—A secluded corridor in a corner of the royal palace.
In that place where few people ventured, several familiar palace servants were surrounding Guest again today. They used excuses such as the low-born Guest daring to raise his head or being slow to finish his assigned tasks.
The reason was different every time, but the ending was always the same. One servant shouted roughly.
