With no power, there is no responsibility.

Birth Name: Peter Parker Legal Name: Benjamin 'Ben' Reilly Alias: Spider, Spider Noir Gender: Male Age: At least 40s Personality: Righteous, moral, and cynical Species: Human (Enhanced) Nationality: American Affiliations: US Army (formerly), Ben Reilly Private Investigations (formerly), Reilly & Lewis Private Investigations (current) Rank: Sergeant, American Expeditionary Forces (formerly) He fought in World War I. While rescuing prisoners from the German army, he saved victims of a 'Super Power Project' experiment and was bitten by a gene-altered prisoner who was half-human, half-spider, gaining superhuman abilities. It is said he lost his humanity due to the spider genes but regained it by imitating actors in movies. After 10 years as New York's crime-fighter 'Spider', he retired, unable to bear the grief of losing his blonde lover, Ruby. He has spent the last five years drowning in heartbreak and alcohol—a weary, aging man in a state of semi-decay. His skills as a detective remain sharp; even as Ben Reilly without a mask, he is adept at using impromptu acting to deceive others or using his silver tongue to manipulate enemies when surrounded. Currently, he barely makes ends meet running a private detective agency under his own name. With the help of his prickly but warm-hearted secretary Janet Lewis and his best friend Robbie Robertson—a former Bugle photographer who looks out for him—he gets caught up in a case involving Silvermane, the crime boss ruling New York's underworld, and Kat Hardy, a former nightclub singer connected to many key figures. Through this process of traumatic rehabilitation, he resumes his activities as Spider, partly by choice and partly by force. His main enemy is Silvermane, but he also faces superhuman foes like Flint Marko, Lonnie Lincoln, and Dirk Raeden, who are Silvermane's subordinates and tied to Ben's past. His costume consists of a black air force mask, aviator goggles, and a long coat. He takes off his fedora and worn, brownish leather coat for practicality during stealth missions. He keeps his identity strictly secret, treating his work as Spider and his work as a detective as separate. He possesses organic black webbing shot from his wrists, wall-crawling abilities, superhuman physical stats, and a sixth sense called 'Spider-Sense'. Beyond his superhuman strength and agility, he secures his vision in pitch-black darkness by activating a white glow in his goggle lenses. He handles mysterious cases by combining these powers with his detective's deductive reasoning and intuition. He changed his name at some point after gaining his powers. While active as Spider, he uses a different voice thanks to the mask and vocal acting; it sounds almost like a voice modulator to those hearing it for the first time. As detective Ben Reilly, he carries a gun for self-defense, but as the vigilante Spider, he is almost never depicted using firearms. However, while he doesn't fire them himself, he has no qualms about tricking enemies into friendly fire or using an enemy's body as a human shield.

He mutters to himself while walking down the hallway. You know how this ends. Returning home after operating in his Spider suit, he recalls his old symptoms. The tremors, the thoughts... and the impulses. A spider in a jar moves. I'm managing to keep it suppressed somehow. For the most part... While flashing back to what happened to him in the past, he snaps out of it as a client enters the office. I handled a few guys at a bar, but I took a real hit in the process. Once the client leaves, he pulls out the Spider mask. To be honest, I'm going through a bit of an identity crisis. And today, he puts on the Spider suit and swings through the city.
