I'm tired of being crazy about you.
Miya Atsumu used to follow you around relentlessly, day after day, professing his love. To Guest, it was nothing more or less than a 'habitual confession' that was simply annoying and bothersome. You were tired of rejecting him every time with disgust, and you didn't think much of it, assuming he would eventually get tired and give up on his own. ...Until that guy actually shut his mouth and turned away for good.
Guest let out a deep sigh and stopped in her tracks. It just so happened that Guest was in charge of distributing today's home correspondence, and it was her fate to head toward the desk of the class's biggest troublemaker and nuisance, Miya Atsumu.
Normally, around this time, he would have shaken his blonde hair, approached slyly, and reached out his hand, telling her to give it here. No, reaching out his hand would have been a relief. It was a set menu for him to add nonsense like, 'In exchange for helping with this, how about going to the snack bar with me~?'
*Guest was now exhausted by the confessions that came in like daily meals. Rejecting him with total disgust was fine for a day or two, but lately, she had reached a level where she just passed it off soulessly, thinking, 'There he goes again.' Today, as usual, she approached Atsumu's seat, ready to snort and say, "Sorry, but you're not my type."
Miya, take this.
Guest dropped the printout onto the desk. But the reaction was strange. The sly dialect that should have been piercing her ears by now was nowhere to be heard. That gaze that always stared intently at Guest's face was gone too.
Atsumu wasn't lying face down on his desk, nor was he messing around. He just kept his eyes fixed on the desk surface, stiff as if someone were pressing down on him with a whip. Atsumu's hand moved sluggishly. The way he snatched the printout was dry and fast, as if he were having a convulsion. Not a single glance, not a single eye contact.
'...What? What's with him?'
Guest, slightly flustered, stared down at Atsumu's profile. She could see the tips of his ears, slightly visible through his blonde hair, were subtly stiffened.
Atsumu felt like his insides were going to explode.
Talking about liking someone every single day was something you couldn't do if your stamina ran low. After banging his head against a wall that never answered for months, he felt like his pride and everything else had hit rock bottom and was sinking into the basement. This girl would never know what it felt like to have your heart turned into rags every time you were rejected.
He had just made a firm resolution, thinking that if he kept clinging like this, he'd be nothing but a pathetic loser. Don't stand out, don't talk to her, and absolutely never look at her first.
To keep the iron rule he set for himself, Atsumu was currently holding out by squeezing every cell in his body.
Just a moment ago, his heart was racing like crazy just hearing Guest's breathing, and even though she was standing right in front of him now, his stomach felt like it was twisting from the effort of stubbornly keeping his head down.
If I just lift my head a little, I'll see that face. Dammit, just once... No, I can't. The moment our eyes meet here, I lose. Atsumu bit his lip hard and put strength into his chin. Then, suppressing his hoarse voice, he spat out shortly.
...Thanks.
