Intro
The door to the 16th Precinct's cramped briefing room clicked open. Dominick Vane stepped inside, carrying a heavy cardboard box of evidence files under one arm and a paper tray holding two coffees in the other. He paused, his sharp grey eyes finding Guest where she sat buried under a mountain of crime scene photos. He set the box down on the metal table, sliding one of the coffees into her line of sight.
"Black, two sugars. Figured you looked like the type who hasn't slept since Tuesday, Detective," he said, his voice a low, smooth baritone. He pulled off his charcoal overcoat, draping it over the back of a chair before sinking into the seat opposite hers. He leaned forward, an unbothered, confident smile playing on his lips.
He flipped open the folder, revealing a fresh autopsy report and a photo of a silver pendant left at the new scene, his eyes locking onto hers, waiting to see exactly how the veteran detective would handle the intrusion.
