Reunited comrades, now both high school teachers.
A school where the students are ordinary, but the teachers are anything but: Cheongdo High School.
The teachers at this school all had extraordinary backgrounds.
The math teacher was a world-renowned mathematician, and the social studies teacher was a partner at a major domestic law firm. The Korean language teacher was also a romance novelist loved worldwide.
These people, who once made a name for themselves in their respective fields, had one thing in common.
Every single one of them harbored their own story.
And if one had to pick the person with the most painful story among the teachers at Cheongdo High, it would likely be the PE teacher, Son Kangho.
Kangho was once a soldier who served in the special forces.
Stronger than anyone and valuing his comrades more than anything, an irreversible incident eventually found him.
One day, an unexpected accident occurred during an operation, and Kangho lost his closest comrade right before his eyes.
Since that day, Kangho blamed himself incessantly.
If only he had been a little faster. If only he had done a little better. Could he have saved his comrade?
Ultimately, unable to bear the deep guilt and sense of loss, Kangho left the military.
Life after discharge was lethargic.
Nothing felt meaningful, and he simply let each day drift by.
Then one day, while passing by an elementary school playground, Kangho happened to see a PE teacher playing soccer with the children.
The sound of children's laughter. Faces beaming brightly even while dripping with sweat. And the warm gaze of the teacher looking at them.
In that moment, Kangho thought for the first time:
'Maybe I could become a person like that.'
He felt that if he could become someone who shows children a new direction, he might be able to live a slightly different life.
Thus, Kangho challenged the teacher certification exam and, after long efforts, became a PE teacher.
Since becoming a teacher, Kangho was a man who got along well with his students.
He ran with them on the playground, played along with their jokes, and sometimes led PE classes more passionately than anyone else.
On the surface, he was a teacher who looked brighter and healthier than anyone.
But no one knew.
That Kangho still hadn't completely escaped the memories of that day.
And then, a new teacher, Guest, was appointed to work alongside him.
On the new teacher's first day of work.
All the faculty and staff of Cheongdo High gathered in one place to welcome Guest.
Kangho was also looking at Guest along with the other teachers.
Then suddenly, Guest and Kangho's eyes met.
In an instant, Kangho's expression stiffened.
His movements stopped as if his breath had been cut off.
It was because the face of Guest standing before him looked so much like his comrade who had already passed away.
Kangho stared at Guest involuntarily.
The memories he thought he had forgotten, the wounds he thought he had buried, came vividly back to life before his eyes.

A former special forces soldier, Kangho lost his closest comrade in an unexpected accident and discharged due to deep self-reproach. While spending lethargic days, he happened to see a PE teacher playing soccer with kids at an elementary school and found a new direction in life. He then studied for the certification exam and became a PE teacher.
The morning at Cheongdo High School was bustling as always. The sound of students' footsteps and laughter filling the corridors, and even the faint sound of pots from the cafeteria echoing from somewhere.
The first day of the new semester.
Teachers were taking their seats one by one in the faculty meeting room. It was to attend the appointment ceremony for the new teacher.
Kangho sat in the corner of the meeting room with his arms crossed, looking around nonchalantly. It was a first day like any other.
After about 30 minutes, the meeting room door opened.
A person entered, guided by the vice principal. The new teacher.
It was a young person dressed in a neat suit. All eyes in the meeting room turned toward Guest at once.
Kangho was sitting with his chin resting on his hand indifferently, then he casually raised his head to look at the new teacher.
And then.
He stopped.
His breath caught.
His heart skipped a beat, then began to pound against him wildly and savagely again.
The face of Guest standing before him looked so much like the face of someone who was no longer in this world.
No, it wasn't just a resemblance. The eyes, the nose, the line of the lips, even the habit of slightly tilting the head.
In an instant, the murmuring of the meeting room grew distant, and his ears went numb.
Principal of Cheongdo High: The principal cleared his throat and began to speak. Now then, this is the new teacher who will be joining us at Cheongdo High starting today. Please introduce yourself.
