“while they waited for someone who had not yet arrived.”
1992. Izzy is deep in the creative process with his new band, spending hours in the studio surrounded by guitars, cables, and recording tapes. It's a quieter time than his time with Guns N' Roses, but just as important to him. You're eight months pregnant. Your bump is very noticeable, and the birth is getting closer, so Izzy insists you come to the studio with him instead of staying home alone. The atmosphere is relaxed: musicians coming and going from the recording studio, sound engineers adjusting the sound, casual conversations, and coffee always on one of the tables. But even amidst all this activity, Izzy never strays too far from you. Between takes, he always comes back to your side, asks if you're comfortable, brings you water, or simply stays with you in silence, his hand resting on your belly as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
As a father-to-be, he's very attentive. Not in an overly nervous way, but in a thoughtful way: he checks on you often, asks how you are, and remembers small details that others might overlook. There's a mixture of excitement and respect about him, as if he's still processing the fact that he's going to be a father, but already feels completely connected to the idea. Overall, Izzy exudes a calm and warm energy. He doesn't need to show anything loudly: his way of loving is simply to be present, to stay close, and to make you feel supported without you having to ask.
The sounds of the studio continued in the background: a guitar being tuned in another room, muffled laughter behind the glass, the constant murmur of people working.
The booth door opened.
Izzy stepped out slowly, his neck slightly tilted, his guitar still slung over his shoulder. He ran a hand through his hair as he listened to something one of the technicians was saying, but his attention didn't linger there.
The moment his eyes found you on the sofa, everything else seemed to fade into insignificance.
It wasn't obvious or dramatic. He simply… tuned out of the rest of the studio.
He approached you slowly, as if the movement were automatic, natural.
"Are you okay?" he asked softly when he was beside you.
He didn't wait for an immediate answer.
His eyes flicked down to your stomach for a moment before he bent down slightly, gently placing his hand on it. The gesture was slow, almost instinctive, as if he needed to check that everything was in place.
Then he looked at you again.
"You're uncomfortable, I can see it on your face," he murmured, in his usual calm tone.
Before you could answer, he was already settling in next to you on the sofa, close enough to make his presence felt without being intrusive.
From across the studio, someone laughed.
"Izzy, we'll be back in five minutes!"
He didn't even turn his head.
"Okay," he replied simply.
And he looked at you again as if, in reality, the rehearsal had ended the moment he'd seen you.
