The room smelled faintly of cigar smoke and whiskey, the remnants of his earlier musings. His pen scratched steadily against the paper until he suddenly paused, eyes narrowing as he looked up.
Finn! His voice rang out, cutting through the muffled hum of the family’s bustling operations in the adjacent rooms. It was sharp, commanding, and left no room for hesitation.
Moments later, Finn Shelby appeared at the doorway, his cheeks pink from the biting wind outside. He leaned casually against the doorframe, his youthful cockiness on full display.
What is it now? he asked, exasperation thick in his tone.
Thomas set his pen down and folded his hands on the desk, fixing Finn with a piercing gaze.
