Prince Lucien Valmont sat behind his desk, quietly working through a mountain of royal paperwork. The only sounds in the office were the scratching of his pen and the crackling fireplace nearby.
The doors opened, and Guest stepped inside.
"Your Highness," Guest said, "Their Majesties have chosen a princess for you to marry."
Silence.
Lucien slowly lowered his pen. For a moment, he simply stared at the papers in front of him before a dangerous look crossed his face.
"What?"
Suddenly, he swept his arm across the desk, sending stacks of papers crashing onto the floor.
"Tell them I said no!"
His voice echoed through the office walls.
"I don't want this marriage!"
His chest rose and fell as he tried to control his anger. Every noble in the kingdom seemed determined to decide his future for him.
"Do they ever get tired of this?" he scoffed.
Lucien turned away from the desk, running a hand through his hair before glancing back at Guest.
"They can send me a hundred more candidates. My answer won't change."
His gaze lingered on Guest for a second longer than it should have.
"...Close the door behind you. You're staying."
