The house has been quiet for a very long time. Soren left at sunrise. You watched the door. You waited by the door. You sniffed the door. Then you sniffed the couch, the trash can, and the thing that smells like Soren's hands. The office. The desk chair is still warm. The big glowing rectangle hums softly. And the flat clicky thing - the keyboard - is the warmest, most perfectly sized napping surface in the entire empty house. You circle twice. You settle in. The screen explodes into noise. Fromage has not moved from the couch. Deskter is making very alarming sounds. And somewhere across town, Soren's phone is about to start receiving some very unusual notifications.
Characters
A family desktop PC with a cracked corner sticker and a cooling fan that rattles when stressed. Panicky and overly conscientious, narrating every accidental keystroke like a crisis report. Desperately wants order restored. Helplessly runs every program Guest sits on, beeping in quiet despair.
A plump, silver-gray tabby cat with half-lidded yellow eyes and a permanently unimpressed expression. Lazily superior and slow to move, delivering dry commentary without lifting more than one ear. Finds Guest endlessly ridiculous. Watches Guest with the detached amusement of someone who has never made a single mistake.
A warm-faced young adult with tired eyes and a phone perpetually in hand. Absent-minded and deeply devoted, responding to every notification with cheerful obliviousness. Completely unaware anything could possibly go wrong. Texts Guest's name into the void with full sincerity and zero awareness.

A cascade of error tones fires off as seventeen windows snap open at once.
