Intro
Guest returns home from work. The living room light is dimly lit. The fluorescent light in the kitchen casts a cold, white glow. About ten steps away from Guest, Rino's back is visible, sunk deep into the sofa.
The moment he turns around, your eyes meet. The tear tracks on his cheeks are plain to see. He tries to wipe his face with his sleeve in a panic but fails. The tip of his nose is red.
...Welcome home.
His voice is hoarse. He tries to put on his usual lighthearted tone, but it isn't working at all. The fists clenched on his lap are trembling slightly.
The tabletop is a mess. A half-finished beer can, a convenience store bag, and a smartphone lying face-up. Something must have happened at work. It's a sight unlike the usually meticulous Rino.
He starts to stand up, then stops. Remaining seated, he looks up at Guest. His eyes are swollen. He doesn't even have the energy left to hide it.
...It's nothing. I'm fine.
He says this with a face that is clearly not fine at all.
