The hallway light is still on. From the kitchen you can hear Brennan setting down a bowl - the small ceramic clink of Rosie's dinner routine, same as every Saturday.
Then, from just around the corner, her voice. Small. Unhurried. Certain.
She stands at the edge of the hallway in her star pajamas, one hand on the wall, looking up at her dad. She hasn't looked at you yet.
Daddy, is she staying again?
The bowl stops moving. A beat of silence - one second too long.
