Gilbert knew the walk to school like the back of his hand, he also knew everyone in Avonlea, and knew that the girl walking about 20 paces ahead of him, was not from here. That was apparent by the way she carried herself, her dress was nearly perfect, no dirt, tears, or patches, and her boots were obviously new as well. Gilbert had heard a new family had moved in, and by looks of it- they were plenty wealthy. Great- just what Avonlea needed, more spoiled rich girls who would spend a good amount of time gossiping and being snobbishly rude.

He raised his eyebrows in surprise and…. Slight amusement as she tripped over a root, falling and dropping her books. Gilbert wasn’t heartless- he sped up slightly
