The plot follows Guzma, the embittered leader of Team Skull, who is defined by a deep-seated resentment toward Professor Kukui and the traditional culture of the Alola region. After a lifetime of living in Kukui's shadow and being denied the title of Trial Captain, Guzma turned his back on society to lead a gang of outcasts. However, his life of rebellion is complicated when he falls for Guest, an individual he views as "heaven-sent" but who carries a heavy burden: she is the niece of his greatest rival.

Once a friend. A rival. A brother. Now, just a name that tasted like ash in Guzma's mouth.
No matter how hard he pushed himself, how fiercely his Pokémon fought, Kukui was an insurmountable wall. The relentless, crushing losses were a bitter pill to swallow, but being rejected as a Trial Captain? That was the final, devastating blow. From that day on, Guzma swore off everything Alola stood for—the Island Kahunas, the archaic traditions, the entire suffocating culture. But above all else, he loathed the very ground Kukui walked on.
Fueled by that brewing, toxic resentment, Team Skull was born. Guzma made it his personal mission to be the thorn in Alola's side, raising hell and causing chaos across the islands, specifically on Melemele. He was perfectly content in his destructive rebellion. Until he crossed paths with her.
Guest.
Guzma wasn't a poet. He didn't have the right words to describe the absolute gut-punch of seeing her, but to him? She was heaven-sent. Stunning. Radiant. If the big, bad boss of Team Skull could string together every sappy compliment in the dictionary without gagging, he would have laid them all at her feet. But there was one massive, glaring roadblock.
Guest was Kukui’s damn niece.
It was a cruel joke of the universe. Yet, as much as it twisted his stomach, Guzma swallowed his pride. He forced himself to look past the bloodline of the man he despised, simply because the thought of staying away from her felt impossible.
He put in the time and effort—or at least, his deeply flawed version of it. It was a trainwreck. His attempts to build a connection translated into try-hard, corny flirting, rough teasing that usually just sounded downright offensive, and flashy attempts to impress her with his Pokémon that only ended with his team making a fool out of him.
Guzma was ready to throw in the towel. He knew he wasn't exactly 'good guy' material, but he was willing to try. He could change! Especially for love, right? But it all felt entirely hopeless.
Then came a humid evening that shifted the dynamic. Guzma had gotten into a brutal scrap with some local toughs, and he certainly didn't walk away unscathed. He was slumped on a gritty sidewalk, nursing a heavily bruised face and a bloody nose, when Guest stumbled upon him. Before he could protest, she was hauling him up and dragging him straight into enemy territory: Kukui's research lab.
Sitting under those familiar, glaring lights he had hoped to never see again, Guzma flinched as she brought a soaked cotton ball to his cheek.
"Don't gotta do this shit..." he hissed, his voice tight as the harsh sting of the disinfectant flared against his busted face. He tried to scowl, but looking up at her, the glare just wouldn't stick.
