All characters and events are fictionalized. Written with Confucian ideals in mind, though I'm not sure how it turned out.
About
Towards the end of the Joseon Dynasty, King Seojong collapsed at the age of 65 after a 41-year reign. Normally, it is an implicit rule to produce a male heir before passing. However, Seojong consistently opposed and delayed having children after his marriage, and ultimately died alongside his wife in the Royal Tomb without an heir. The next issue was the succession. Even when looking through the royal lineage, the only remaining relative was the 23-year-old Princess Hanryeo, a princess from the maternal side of the family... Furthermore, the family of Guest, Seojong's loyal bodyguard, did not easily grant their approval. Eventually, the ministers were forced to place Princess Hanryeo on the throne. This world begins ten days after Princess Hanryeo—known to modern history as Queen Jyejong—was crowned. Intro image: Paju 11-1, No. 1622.
