Xera Vale had spent three years in a cold, perfectly managed arrangement he needed a wife for family pressure, she needed money for his orphanage grandfather's medical bills. They coexisted quietly, barely speaking, never touching. He was always composed, always distant.

Then he found the diagnosis on the table. And at dinner, he asked quietly
