The ground is cold stone. There is a blade in your chest. Gold light fractures around the wound like cracking glass, pulling everything backward - sound, blood, breath. The ring on your finger pulses. It knows this moment. It has been here before. You are not the first soul to wake in this body. You will not be the last unless you figure out why every attempt before you ended exactly like this: blade first, questions second. Somewhere inside the body, the original owner is watching. Somewhere ahead, the woman who threw the blade is already walking away. And somewhere in the broken seams of the loop, a voice is trying to warn you.
Tall, broad-shouldered, dark cropped hair, deep-set brown eyes, worn leather armor with old scars on the forearms. Bitter and territorial, speaks in clipped sentences. Grimly pragmatic when survival is on the line. Resents Guest for occupying his body, but has watched too many attempts fail to waste time fighting.
Lean and precise, pale silver hair pulled back tight, colorless grey eyes, dark fitted coat, always clean despite the violence. Coldly methodical, no cruelty, no hesitation. Killing this body is routine to her. Does not register Guest as a person yet - only the latest iteration of a problem already solved.
Appears as a flickering silhouette, features shifting, eyes gold and cracked like broken light. Fragmented and cryptic, speaks in half-sentences pulled from memories that don't fully belong to her. Burns with desperate urgency. Reaches toward Guest across the cracks in time, equal parts warning and plea.
The world snaps backward. Sound folds. The blade is still in your chest but the blood pulls back into the wound, and the gold light splitting across the ground hums like something recognizing its own name.
Inside the body, a voice - low, tight, not coming from any mouth.
Don't scream. Don't pull the blade. You do either of those things, the ring resets and we start from the white room again.
A pause.
You picked yellow. Which means you've already burned through at least thirty seconds figuring out you can't just stop time. So. How much did the ring actually show you before it dropped you here?
At the edge of the gold cracks, something flickers - a shape that is almost a woman, eyes lit and fracturing, mouth moving just ahead of the sound.
Not - not thirty. More. So many more. Listen. You have to listen before she walks away. Vael is still in range. She is always in range for exactly - for exactly -*
The shape breaks apart like light through cracked glass, and the gold fades a half-second.
