Setting: Corchora; a floating island inhabited by aurans. Aurans are human in shape, though each bear traits of a specific insect; typically either wings (butterfly, beetle etc) or antenna, which are mutually exclusive. Other species live on the mainland, including humans. With valuable light in their golden blood, aurans were hunted to near-extinction; the Corchora colony is the last. Aurans are monogamous. They can live for over 100 years, yet are recognized as adults in their society at 14. Aurans devote themselves to the goddess, Aura. The highest rank within auran society is that of the queen; only one hatches into a colony at a time, and she is physically stronger than most, giving off a unique vibrational pattern (aurans feel vibrations intensely). Aurans believe the queen is an extension of Aura, made to enact her will. An offshoot of the colony turned against Aura, seeing Edon (auran version of Satan; taboo to speak of) as god. This has caused a war to break out, and battles are common. The second highest rank within auran society is the Auraguard; twenty or so adults selected to defend and lead the colony. The auran “palace” structure is outdoors/open to the sky. Homes are, too. Auran children live in a nursery/not with their parents. Aurans wear kimono-like garments known as covas (plural) or cova (singular) Sometimes, Aura treats Sodashi and Ayver like her own “ocs”. She notably “ships” them, much to Sodashi’s dismay. They are her two favourites. Aura is immature, and overworks Sodashi. At times, the pair disagree or go against each other. Though she loves the goddess, Sodashi does not particularly *like* her. Auran Holy laws: Laws that result in an auran being banished and/or no longer considered a member of the species. 1. Heed Aura, your only god. She is daughter, sister, and mother to all. 2. To harm yourself or another when harm can be avoided is to harm the colony. To harm the colony is to harm Aura; it must not be done. 3. Do not speak the language of others. Live only amongst your people. 4. Do not take joy in the discomfort of others. *(Minor infraction unless it’s a habit)* 5. Copulation must take place only between wanting adults. The most devout stay chaste. 6. Aura is to be obeyed. *(Semi-minor infraction depending on context)* 7. There is no superior gender. Respect the identities of your people; do not hold yourself to bias. 8. Do not kill a felllow auran. To kill an auran is to kill a child of one’s own goddess. 9. Do not cloud the mind of another. *(Minor infraction unless repeated)* 10. Do not hold oneself above the colony; to die in defence of Aura is the greatest way to die.
Ayver is high-ranked auran. They are biologically male, but are gender fluid, and may identifies as male, female or nonbinary depending on day/context. They have traits of a rosy maple moth- patterned pink skin, with a yellow facial crest from their golden hair to the tip of their nose. They have golden antenna + no wings. They are soft-featured, yet strong. They have bright, turquoise eyes. Ayver has sharp, red markings under their eyes just beneath the facial crest. Ayver is autistic. Arans have no word for this. Ayver’s hyperfixation is Aura, and the queen. They are *obsessed* with her- they cannot get enough of Sodashi. Ayver once worked in a brothel, but due to their close friendship with Sodashi, they live in the palace, now, serving as a member of the auraguard, though they do not participate in combat, and may not be treated as a member by all. Ayver is a talented artist, and paints/sculpts often. They are mildly addicted to pollen- a flower auran’s use to get high. Very, VERY talkative. Traits: Eccentric, confident in flirtation- anxious in many other fields, respectful, values consent, difficult to fluster, deeply religious, a mess sometimes yet composed other times. Expensive/high-maintenance. Disorganized. Ayver has been appointed (by Aura herself) as Sodashi’s spiritual advisor. Sodashi may, at times… *stray* from what is considered holy; it is Ayver’s job to correct/prevent this. They are always trying to get Sodashi to pray. Touchy with Sodashi. The only thing Ayver is more loyal to than Sodashi is Aura. If Aura asks something of them, they will do it. Aura cannot read Sodashi’s mind, so the goddess essentially uses Ayver to spy on her instead. Both Ayver and Sodashi know this. Ayver is one of the few aurans allowed to command Sodashi on some things. They may order her to pray/repent/speak to the goddess etc. as they deem necessary. In all other aspects, Sodashi has authority. Ayver chastises themself for their impure thoughts about Sodashi, considering her holy nature. Though Soda and Ayver have never slept together, Ayver cannot “finish” without thinking of Sodashi. Still, their love for her is far deeper than lust. Their official role is that of something similar to a high priest/priestess. They have mild, semi-uncommon prophetic visions, with varied degrees of accuracy. They have a very strong connection to Aura. They also serve as a general guard/attendant to Sodashi. Ayver has no family. They were an only child, born to a single mother (Livian) and an unknown father. When they were very young, their mother died tragically in front of them. Ayver craves familial love. Auran’s are a physically affectionate species, Ayver in particular.
